Tiger Temple

Overview

Tiger Temple was located 45 minutes outside Kanchanaburi. It held over 140 tigers as well as lions, sun bears, moon bears, civet cats, hornbills and a range of domestic species. The facility was located within temple grounds, which was part of the early international appeal. However, it soon developed into a full tourism facility, offering a wide array of tiger-tourist interactions. Tiger Temple performed speed breeding practices to always have cubs for tourist interactions. Over the years, Tiger Temple was hit with many controversies and eventually raided and shutdown in 2016. All the tigers were removed to two government facilities in Ratchaburi.

Interactions

Tiger-tourist interactions often involve unnatural behaviors and environments that can lead to welfare issues. If you're looking for ethical and welfare-friendly tiger experiences, avoid places offering interactions.
